Relationships between migraine and epilepsy: Pathophysiological mechanisms and clinical implications

چکیده
Migraine and epilepsy are distinct neurological diseases with specific clinical features underlying pathophysiological mechanisms. However, numerous studies have highlighted the complex multifaceted relationships between two conditions. The headache manifest themselves in different ways. Firstly, diagnosis of these disorders may be challenging view possible overlapping. While post-ictal is a frequent condition, ictal epileptic rare but diagnosis. Both situations raise question mechanism triggered by seizures. aura can also exhibit overlapping symptoms leading to their misdiagnosis, particular case visual aura. Secondly, migraine occur as co-morbid particularly familial hemiplegic (FHM). From perspective, identification genetic mutations FHM has brought significant advances understanding dysfunctions neuronal networks hyperexcitability. purpose this review present encompassing that practice discuss such interactions.

متن کاملMigraine and epilepsy: a focus on overlapping clinical, pathophysiological, molecular, and therapeutic aspects.
The association of epilepsy and migraine has been long recognized. Migraine and epilepsy are both chronic disorders with episodic attacks. Furthermore, headache may be a premonitory or postdromic symptom of seizures, and migraine headaches may cause seizures per se (migralepsy). Migraine and epilepsy are comorbid, sharing pathophysiological mechanisms and common clinical features. Several recen...
متن کاملCommon pathophysiologic mechanisms in migraine and epilepsy.
Migraine and epilepsy are comorbid episodic disorders that have common pathophysiologic mechanisms. Migraine attacks, like epileptic seizures, may be triggered by excessive neocortical cellular excitability; in migraine, however, the hyperexcitability is believed to transition to cortical spreading depression rather than to the hypersynchronous activity that characterizes seizures. Some forms o...
متن کاملon translation of phatic communion and socio-cultural relationships between the characters of the novels
phatic communion is a cultural concept which differs across cultures. according to hofstede (2001), the u.s. tends to have individualistic culture; however, asian countries tend to have collectivistic cultures. these cultures view phatic communion differently. in individualistic cultures like u.s., phatic communion reflects speakers’ socio-cultural relationships in conversations. to see whether...
